Once the weather gets a bit more consistent outside it will be time to hit the many outdoor Adirondack skating rinks. Until that time my family makes time for ice-skating at the indoor arenas. That is fine, too. Inside we have the opportunity to take off our skates, warm up our toes and listen to the music piped in over the sound system. It?s a great way to work off the holiday desserts!
Most of the indoor rinks cater to the hockey and figure skating crowd. We?ve found that even if the schedule is posted online, it is best to call first just to make sure a make-up game hasn?t altered the free skate time.
The Saranac Lake Civic Center, Ampersand Ave., changes its phone message daily with public skate times. The 1932 Olympic rink,?2634 Main Street,Lake Placid is open only at certain times for public skating as there are often professional events like Stars on Ice as well as hockey games like Festivus Face-Off, which requires a certain caliber of ice quality.
Though a bit out of the ?Blue Line, public skating can be found In Plattsburgh at the Ameri-Can North Sports Center,90 Sharron Ave, which posts its public skating schedule at the beginning of each week. The cost is $4/adults and $2/students/children with a multisession punch card available for purchase.
