One more family will soon find their way into an affordable home with the help of a $2,400 grant awarded to Habitat of Humanity of Utah County by the Utah Association of REALTORS? Housing Opportunity Fund (UARHOF).
The award was presented at the Utah County Association of REALTORS? (UCAR) membership luncheon this December to Executive Director Kena Jo Matthews. Members of the Artanduaga family, who will receive a home with the grant funds, were also present
?The Artanduaga?s moved to Utah County eleven years ago wanting to fulfill the wishes of the children?s grandparents to have a chance for a better education and opportunities that were not available in their home country of Peru,? Matthews says. ?Unfortunately, their plans took an unexpected turn when Jose [the father] was injured at his construction job.?
That injury was a life changing one: Jose broke his back and is unable to work. The family also has a 20-year-old son with many learning and physical disabilities and a six-year-old son with severe autism.
The Artanduaga?s currently live in a small, overcrowded townhouse on a busy road. The grant funds will be used to help pay for construction costs on a five bedroom, two bathroom home that is currently being built at 1042 North 950 West in Provo.
The mission of UARHOF is to provide financial resources to support the development of affordable housing opportunities for low-income individuals and families. Local nonprofit organizations can apply for available grants, which are reviewed first by the local board of REALTORS? and then by the state UARHOF Trustees.
?Here at UCAR, we have a long-standing relationship with Habitat for Humanity of Utah County,? says Taylor Oldroyd, UCAR CEO. ?They are able to accomplish great things in the community, but that impact doesn?t compare to the difference they make for the individual families who receive help.?
Since Habitat for Humanity of Utah County became affiliated in 1991, it has built or renovated 51 homes providing 81 adults and 158 children safe and affordable housing and a stable home environment.
The Utah County Association of REALTORS? is the local voice of real estate and is committed to its motto of ?Bringing People Home.? For more information call the Utah County Association of REALTORS? at (801) 226-3777 or visit them at www.ucaor.com
